Mixer Masquerade

For our second stab at Winter Mixer, we did our best to make it even more memorable. Our choice was a party in the library. You heard us! A party…in the library. Check out this blog post written by the StAR, Elizabeth Young! When we did our theme search for Winter Mixer 2010, we had no idea there would be such a standout theme, but not one, not two, not three, but FOURTEEN people suggested that the StARs should throw a masquerade. Did we oblige? And how! We approached the Virginia Military Institute with a formal invitation to attend our masquerade, and they gladly accepted. We even bussed them onto our campus for those students who did not have any other means of transportation. We were expecting around 250 guests, but again our expectations were trumped. Over 350 guests arrived for our Mixer.

We closed off most of the library and kept it to the main reading room, the balcony, and the spiral stairs. The balcony had the food and the cash bar as well as a quieter place to mingle. Sure we had some logistical issues (like alllll the furniture had to be moved out in two hours and then back in before opening the next day…and there were only three bathrooms for EVERYONE), but overall it was impressive. We hope to invite VMI again next year, and we hope that even more Sweet Briar students come to realize that Winter Mixer is the bomb.
